Chop the onions into small pieces, grate the carrots and chop the celery stalks into small pieces. Sauté the onions in a pan in oil for a couple of minutes. Add grated carrot and celery pieces and mix until smooth.
Pour in crushed tomatoes, vegetable broth, lentils, balsamic vinegar and other spices. Stir and let the sauce simmer on a low heat under the lid for about 20 minutes. Meanwhile, cook the pasta.
